Actually, it is the last goodwill find or the next 6 months! Yes, you read that right. My New Year's resolution is to NOT shop for the first 6 months of 2010, other than groceries and needs for the kids. As much as I love the "thrill of the hunt" and finding my treasures, I have come to realize that I have enough stuff in my house(and in my basement) to last me a long time. I need to redo what I have stored, use up my craft supplies, and stop adding to my accumulations :o And I know I could have worse obsessions, goodwill is far less expensive than designer purse habits(btdt) or even Target, those little purchases still do add up. So I will take that money that I would have spent at GW and put it in a Christmas account.
So I went to GW for the last time yesterday afternoon. I actually only found one thing for the house, a large basket for $1.99. But did find for myself a ton of clothes, 11 skirts(from llbean, lane bryant, and J Jill, several still new with tags), a linen dress set, 4 tops, and a pair of jeans for my 3 yr old. I am rebuilding my skirt wardrobe for after the baby arrives and can't wait for Spring to arrive and start wearing them. While I was there, I saw this one large object marked $4.99, it was a plywood wine rack. I have no use for a wine rack(don't like wine), but it intrigued me. I bought my stuff and came home. But couldn't get the wine rack out of my head. So an hour later I called GW and asked if they still had it and told them to hold it for me. With my discount card and tax, it cost me $4.71.
Here it is Before...
I removed the faux brass plaque that said something about Chile wines and gave it a coat of Old Village mustard paint. I had first thought it would make a great holder for scrapbook papers, but I'm really not a scrapbooker and don't like the look of all the paper out in the open. I then realized it could hold my cut wool for rug hooking!!! Maybe I will do some hooking in the near future now that I have a place to hold my worms. I'll have to have the kids cut some more wool for me, they love to use that little machine.
I'm still working on my sewing room, but it is getting there. I think I may stencil the room tomorrow and then I will take pics.
Have a great night,
Tiff
What a good idea! Is your wool from recycled clothing? Do you do your own dyeing?
ReplyDeleteI'm scaling back on my thrift shopping too! I need to find a place for everything before I bring one more thing into this house! If I can't find a place for it then it is going out!
That's a really good idea!!
ReplyDeleteHave a happy new year!
Blessings,
Debbie
I admire you for your goal, good luck! I wear skirts all the time and they are hard to find so you hit the jackpot there, wow! Love what you did with the wine rack, scrapbook paper would of been choice of a holder, as I have tons of it! lol Happy New Year Tiff, bright blessings await!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!! Love the rack , Janie
