Simplifying...Life and Home...

Added Cameron's Birthday pic from Halloween...

Purging... that is my word for the next 6 months. I'm clearing and cleaning out the house. I can't believe all the stuff I have accumulated in almost 19 years of marriage, despite having yearly yard sales!! But really, enough is enough and I'm tired of "Stuff". I want a more simple home and simple life, not ruled things and clutter.

I want the lines of the house to show and to use paint to add character and interest....

No unnecessary furniture or nic nacs to get in the way.....
I was going to have a huge fall yard sale, but there just wasn't enough time in the day to get everything ready. So come Spring, I'm having a massive, clear the house out, yard sale!!! I already got rid of 11 storage tubs of stuff in the basement that went to the yard sale pile. And 50x that is still waiting to be let go.

I know that this will not only simplify my home but also my life. It's not an easy task though, as some things I have had for years, but I am letting go and I'm trying to just have antiques and handmade items as decor. You should see the pile of halloween stuff I got rid of after I took it all down this weekend!!

And I know I have really let this blog fall to the way side, but to tell you the truth, my heart just hasn't been in it. I have too many stresses going on. But don't worry, I haven't abandoned it completely, it may just be once weekly that I post, until life gets more certain. I'll leave you today with a pic of some of the kids on Halloween... we had a bumble bee, Patriot soldier(made completely from wool from my stash), a mobster, a dragon, and a scary monster who sat and scared the trick or treaters. I think the was the first year that I didn't spend a dime on costumes, we used ones we already had or made from stuff around the house:)
Have a lovely weekend,

Tiff

  1. Hi Tiff,
I wish I could do the same.
My life sure could use some simplifying.
I understand about the blogging thing.
Life has had me the same way lately.
There are some things going on that I haven't shared online but sometimes it can take its toll.
Somedays I'm "me" other days I'm not. ;(
I'm ready for some easy, peaceful times.
    It's a coming I keep telling myself.
    Adorable Halloween kido's!
    Hugs

  2. With all the changes I've had this year, I'm only at one post a week. Do what feels comfortable...we love to hear from you when you can. Those pictures are so beautiful. I like the idea of simplifying. I was antiquing today...and put many things back because I don't want too much clutter. Hope all is well in your world!
    Hugs!

  3. Good for you! I am going to try to follow suit! I also have lots of stuff that needs to go. I think I may shoot for one blog post a week too-it feels manageable and still fun! Good luck, and keep us updated!

  6. Oh I have been doing the same thing for over a year now. I still have a LONG way to go. But it feels great to empty boxes, closets, corners, etc. Less is more. I had never understood that saying till about a year ago. I love the less is more concept. Keep going one item at a time. I am off to pack up about 5 boxes from my sewing/craft studio to ship it off to New Orleans.

  8. Hi Tiffany,
I can relate to that. It is hard to simplify. I try, it isn't something that is easy to do. I haven't blogged much either because life is just busy for me too. I do hope you liked your swap items, I never heard from you.
    Have a good day.

  9. I have lived in the homestead for 15 years & it is chuck full. Weeks ago I thought I was going to have to move out. With that scare I started sorting & purging. Still am to this week. Really I dont miss the stuff. Only keeping what I know I love & will always want. It will make it easier to clean & move when I have to. I wish life could be all upbeat for us all always. Seems there is so little time these days for anything. Hope you are feeling more like yourself soon. Smiles to you. Blessings!

  10. Getting rid of stuff is psychologically refreshing and can help us feel in control. I throw stuff out all the time. I hope life clears up a bit and you feel like yourself again. Once a week for posting is just perfect. -Steph-

  12. Hi Tiff, well you and I are on the same track, first of all I quit my blog...my heart wasn't in it and too much going on in my life. But, will get my picture trail going soon. I have many and I mean many contractor size trash bags FULL, and strating to sell things on ebay, this is just sick!!!! I really think this is an addiction, so, out with the old and no more....or very little "new" coming in.....good luck, smiles, Linda
