Saturday's Project...

I've rearranged the family room again :) , my parents are coming in June and I'm trying to get the house in order...cleaning, decorating, decluttering, etc.  One thing I can check off my list is a new slipcover for the old  mauve wingback chair and ottoman.  I've had this set for years, my mom bought it when I was about 7 years old and it has seen it's fair share of use.  I almost sold it at the garage sale last year, but I realized that it's bones are still solid and I like the lines of it.  It was down in the basement until a few months ago when I brought it up to the family room.  I knew it needed a slipcover but I wasn't sure what to do it in.  I finally decided on a slight off white quilt that I bought from The Christmas Tree Shop(actually it took two, with some fabric leftover to make some pillows).

Here the sad thing is before(minus the cushion)...

And here she is  after.... Much better :)  Don't look at the fabric scraps all over the floor, I'm a messy crafter.
I'm not very happy with the bottom edges... I just hemmed the bottom and it kind of curled, so I may add some sort of pleated edge in the future. But for now I don't have to look at the worn patches of crushed velvet on the arms or the food stains on the cushion, it's now crisp and clean.  As soon as the family is finally done finished for now, I will share pics of the whole room.

Have a beautiful day,

Tiff

  6. What a difference! I like that you used the quilted spreads for covers - what a great idea.

Here's a small suggestion for the edges that you say are sticking out further than you like:
Take some heavy thread and UNDERNEATH right at the stitch line of the piping, do a running stitch (do not come all the way through - that's why you will do it at the piping stitch line ) and gently - now I say GENTLY pull the thread so that the edge starts to come closer to the chair...do not pull real tight or you will see puckers - you just want to take the fluting out of the edge. I have done this on a few things and it does work. Let me know if you do it.

    Blessings,
    Karen
