My Friday....

Here in Maine, 4th grade is the year that you study the state...learn it's history, memorize the counties song, investigate it's animals, etc.. March 15th, 1820 was the day that Maine became the 23rd state, so all the 4th graders celebrated by singing some songs about Maine and enjoying the state's official treat, the whoopie pie :)
This is where I spent my afternoon yesterday, setting up, enjoying, and then cleaning up. I made a center piece for the food table. Lots of parents brought in all kinds of whoopie pies(I was good and didn't have a single one, trying to lose some weight).
I had 8 tables set with simple centerpieces. I asked for the 4th graders to make drawings for the tables and then I put them in simple clear frames.

I then made large paintings for the walls. I wish there would have been a better place to hang them, but I hadn't really thought about that when I was painting them. I still think they came out cute and I'm getting better with drawing on a large scale... They each say a word of the state motto...

It was a nice little celebration and I know the kids enjoyed the treats!

Here is my March bulletin board for the school....
And another one I did for the 4th and 5th graders upstairs....
And a small poster for the hallway for reading month.(I made a couple others but forgot to get pictures of them).
So there is a glimpse into my school volunteering life. I'm starting to realize how much I enjoy drawing and painting, especially on a large scale. I enjoyed it as a child but somehow lost it as an adult...glad to have found it again.

Have a wonderful weekend,

  1. What a fun way to learn history.

Love all the boards you did. You are so talented.

  2. What a fun thing to do, and I'm sure the whole school appreacites it, you rock!!

  3. Hi Tiff! Your boards came out great, they definately represent Maine! We relocated from there to Florida about a year and a half ago. Where about are you?

  4. I grew up in Maine and I think we learned about Maine in 7th grade. I will take a lobster roll and a whoopie pie.

  5. How fun and your pictures are great..Really nice..
The whoopie pies look delicious..Great job on not having one..I would of had a few..No will power here..LOL..Have a great weekend..

  6. Oh my goodness!!! How incredibly talented you are! What a good mom you are too! The teachers must love love love you. I have a niece who's other grandparents are from Maine. She is a chef now, an amazing one. Whoopie pies are one of her favorite things to make and talk about, and she claims Maine is the whoopie pie capitol. I must believe her now!
