The Walton's...Part 2... the museum

You can't visit Schuyler without going to the Walton's Mountain Museum.  It's located in the old elementary school, which is still a very active place(and only about 1/10 of a mile up the road from the Hamner home). Not only is it the museum(staffed by the local senior citizens) but it also serves as their community center. Schuyler has a large active senior community who happened to be having their monthly luncheon while we were there.

I'll throw in an interesting fact here.... Earl Hamner Jr.(John Boy) was the only boy in his graduating class, there were 12 girls(if I recall right) along with him.

Inside, you will find rooms set up as replicas of the show.  This is John Boy's room...(there is a note on the wall stating that they know there wouldn't be an A/C in John Boy's room but it gets really hot there in the summer :) )

Ike Godsey's general store....

They sell souvenirs from here too. I got a tshirt, some pencils, postcards, and a filet crocheted cross bookmark made by one of the locals...

The living room... I think they need to get rid of the teddy bears on the sofa.... and change out the carpet for a braided rug...
 Another view...

The kitchen....

My first thought when I saw this room is that they need the green check tablecloth, that was such a part of the Walton kitchen.

Some nice pieces in this room....

There was a TON of memorabilia on the walls and in display cases.. too much to get pictures of it all.  I saw lots of neat things I want to keep an eye out for... from books to toys...

Some neat models of the Walton home and Baldwin sisters home....

 The recipe room...

This diorama was very neat...  Someone put a lot of time and effort into this....

I would love to make one like this, but I don't think I have the patience to do so...
Part of the admission price includes a 30 minute video with the cast of the show. It was pretty interesting and I enjoyed it, but I hope they put an update with it soon. As the film was made back in 1992.

I didn't realize that so many toys were produced about the show.  They had several games and dollhouses(and dolls).  We saw the box to this dollhouse in a display case and I said to my daughter that I needed to find one.  Then in another room, they had the dollhouse set up....

Here is the inside... It's quite big.  It's just made of cardboard and plastic, but what fun!!

Guess what they had at the general store that I showed you yesterday......

Yep, an original dollhouse still in its box and my dear hubby bought it for me!!!  I can't wait to put it together and decorate it. Hey, I finally got the farmhouse I have been wanting, lol!!!

So there is the museum, I hope you liked the tour....I'm saving the best for tomorrow, so stay tuned...
